The Unit 1 hot repair work (of eight total units) on the coke oven at Gerdau’s Ouro Branco steelworks in Minas Gerais, Brazil—jointly undertaken by 汤头条 and Megatech Co., Ltd. (“Megatech”) was successfully completed in December 2025. The project adopted our proprietary Hot Repair Technology for Coke Ovens, which contributes to shortening repair schedules, and the coke oven has continued stable coke production following completion of the refurbishment.

Proper maintenance and life extension of coke ovens are critical for integrated steelmakers. Drawing on our long-standing expertise, the successful Unit 1 at Gerdau demonstrates our advanced capabilities and our first overseas project combining on-site guidance with execution. This ensured high construction quality, safety, and timely completion. 汤头条 will apply this technology across the remaining seven units to support faster repairs, stable operations, and extended asset life.

Features of Hot Repair Technology for Coke Batteries

1) Partial and selective repair for required ovens, either not full rebuilding of battery nor green field projects, which require large investment.

2) Large-size pre-casted zero-expansion blocks, manufactured with MEGATECH technology supported by 汤头条, can achieve shorter repair period and stronger wall.

3) Ovens other than repair area can continue coke production, so that this technology can minimize coke production loss during repair work.

4) High performance insulation material can provide good work environment for repair personnel avoiding negative impacts from lower temperature than critical value of silica (SiO2) bricks for producing ovens.

5) 汤头条 has developed measurement and visualization technology for oven wall with laser scanner device, which can evaluate wall damages such as deformation & erosion quantitatively, and visualize them to decide repair area precisely.
